Our kraft boxes are made from sustainably-sourced paper from well-managed forests. They are fully recyclable and compostable.

Our clear lids are made from RPET, containing a substantial amount of recycled plastic. They are fully recyclable by most councils or waste management providers.
Our BioCane products are made from rapidly-renewable sugarcane pulp, also known as bagasse – a by-product of the sugar refining industry. Previously, this waste would have been burned or disposed of to allow for re-planting, but now this is harvested to make our bagasse products.

Our bioplastic PLA products are made from plants, not oil. The production of PLA releases 75% less CO2 emissions than traditional plastic, and all of our PLA products can be commercially composted. Please note that items made from PLA are suitable for cold food & drinks only.

The trays are made from pre-consumer waste; the pulp which forms the basis of the tray is made from the off-cuts of paper used for making drink cups, juice cartons and other paper containers, which would otherwise be disposed of. These off-cuts are turned into paper pulp using recycled water, which is then formed into our trays. As the raw paper materials are obtained from several sources, it is not possible to obtain a single ‘certified sustainable’ certification, but as a general comment, statistics show that the forestry areas which supply the pulp for these trays are actually growing in size. These trays are lined with a small amount of PET to make them leakproof, sealable, and generally usable in the oven, microwave and freezer; this lining only forms around 2% of the weight of the tray. These trays are safe for use in ovens (up to 210°C), microwaves, refrigerators and can be frozen down to -40°C for longer-term storage. The trays may be recycled with other paper waste (the tray should be rinsed out to remove food waste) and may be composted in industrial composting facilities where these exist. Being made from paper it is generally recognised that the paper content would decompose in landfill over a period of time (depending on the heat & moisture available) should the trays find their way to such sites.

The plant fibre used in these trays comes from a combination of sugarcane and bamboo. This raw material offers incredibly strong environmental credentials, as the plants are renewable resources that can be planted and harvested quickly. Additionally, because most sugarcane is grown for sugar production, the extra stalks were considered waste and usually incinerated or discarded, but now these stalks are reclaimed and used to make our plant fibre trays. The pulp used in our fully compostable meal trays is made from FSC-certified paper, usually sourced from forests in northern Europe or Scandinavia. These trays are lined with a bio-based laminate, making them fully compostable. They are suitable for use in ovens (up to 140°C), microwaves, refrigerators and can be frozen down to -40°C for longer-term storage. The trays are certified as commercially compostable under EN 13432 standards, and we are working with the manufacturer to obtain a ‘home compostable’ certification as well. The trays can be home recycled, but the inner lining must be removed first. Should the trays find their way to landfill sites, they will compost completely and leave no residue (the amount of time this takes depends on the heat & moisture available), so you do not have to feel guilty about disposing of them in your normal waste if necessary!

The pulp used in our recyclable fresh produce trays is FSC-certified paper pulp, usually sourced from forests in northern Europe or Scandinavia. These trays are lined with multi-layer PP-based laminate, giving a film-sealable, secure barrier to prevent leakage. As the liner on these trays does not have the temperature tolerance of other materials, these trays are for chilled or ambient use only (they cannot be heated or frozen). The trays can be home recycled with your normal paper waste. Should the trays find their way to landfill sites the paper content will compost (the amount of time this takes depends on the heat & moisture available).

Paper for our eco-friendly takeaway products only comes from sustainable forestry. If printed, only water, vegetable and/or soy inks are used. Kraft is a variety of paper; it has a high tear-resistance because of the high density of fibres, which also makes it stronger than other paper products. Products made from this paper material will compost within 8-12 weeks in industrial composting facilities. Alternatively, many items can be recycled with other paper products after rinsing off food content, and some are home compostable. These items can also be disposed of with waste destined for landfill where the paper content will still compost but the process may take longer (depending on the amount of heat and moisture available).
This is a by-product of sugarcane production and would otherwise be wasted. Its environmental credentials are outstanding, but items in this range are unsuitable for long-term contact with food (especially wet food) as the products are unlined. We recommend that any food containing liquids, sauces or gravies be consumed relatively quickly to avoid leakage or damage to the container (dry foods should be fine for a longer period). Products in this range will compost within 8-12 weeks in industrial composting facilities and many are suitable for home composting (although the composting process may take longer). They can also be disposed of with waste destined for landfill where the product will still compost but the process may take longer (depending on the amount of heat and moisture available).
The palm leaves used in our products are only collected once they have fallen naturally from the tree. They are then treated with steam, heat and pressure to mould them into the products you use. As they are untreated and natural, each item will have an individual look and feel. If the product has been used for dry food it can be wiped clean for re-use. Products made from palm leaf will compost within 8-12 weeks in industrial composting facilities and are suitable for home composting (the process may take longer). They can also be disposed of with waste destined for landfill where the product will compost (the time this takes will depend on the amount of heat and moisture available).
PLA stands for Polylactic Acid and is usually made from fermented corn sugars or sugar beets. PLA plastics have similar features to traditional petroleum plastics, but they’re considerably more eco-friendly (for example, the production of PLA generates around 75% less greenhouse gases than the production of conventional plastics). Pure PLA products, such as cold drink cups or sauce/salad containers, are sensitive to heat and therefore only suitable for cold foods/liquids. However, PLA-lined products (such as hot food boxes or coffee cups) are perfectly suitable for hot food holding & serving, provided the contents are not held at a temperature higher than around 85°C. PLA will compost within 8-12 weeks in industrial composting facilities, but is not suitable for recycling. PLA products can also be disposed of in regular waste (i.e. destined for landfill), and this composting process will still occur but will take longer. While PLA may take several years to compost in landfill, petroleum plastics can take thousands of years to disappear, while leaving behind ‘microplastic’ molecules, still making PLA a significant improvement.
DISCLAIMER: It is the responsibility of the user to ensure that the product meets their requirements and specifications. Whilst we are happy to provide advice and guidance about disposing of our products, we always recommend undertaking your own, robust testing procedures and communicating with your waste management providers to ensure all waste is being processed correctly.
Our business began by providing our exclusive range of paper-based, film-sealable meal trays (as well as the compatible sealing film and machinery) to smaller meal producers – mostly community meal providers and ‘meals-on-wheels’ programmes, as the properties of the paper trays lend themselves perfectly to this market; paper is a much safer and more robust material than plastic or foil, offers increased versatility in use, and is significantly more sustainable. As the world became more aware of the ever-increasing issues around plastic waste and pollution, we drew the attention of other, larger, meal manufacturers who wanted to move away from un-sustainable plastic or foil trays and demonstrate their commitment to the environment, and more generally improve their packaging, by switching to our paper trays.
As the demand for more environmentally-friendly packaging grew, we added a large range of environmentally-friendly takeaway food packaging to our catalogue, which we are now delighted to offer via our online shop. These products are perfect for cafes, street food vendors and takeaway businesses looking to move away from unsustainable materials and stay ahead of the ever-increasing regulations around single-use plastics.
We also take great pride in working in partnership with you to ensure that your food packaging not only works for you, but also your customers and the planet.
